. . . p's mother has a beautiful cut crystal decanter collection displayed in their formal living room and have always loved the way they glimmer and add such elegance, and so was much delighted to discover another use for them -- decanterlights, by british designer lee broom, are pendant light fixtures created from vintage crystal decanters sourced from antique markets and vintage shops and available in a natural clear crystal or polished gold -- aren't they lovely?

. . . here, it's elegant neutrals and everywhere marble, but seem to return, again and again, to the sophisticated combination of dramatic wallpaper and task lamps in this powder room -- quite surprising, really, as often drawn to light and bright walls and delicately pretty sconces -- and yet . . .

Always loved the look of delicate capiz shells, especially when used in new ways: whether as outdoor lighting, or a pretty room divider, the pearly iridescence adds an air of seaside sophistication . . .

Once had dinner in an ultra-cool, very modern restaurant with an enormous silver dome lighting fixture above its high-gloss serving bar. Encountered this dramatic lighting once again, last summer, at The Glass House, a beautiful hotel in Edinburgh, where the extravagantly sized fixture hung above a warm and wonderful circular fireplace surrounded by luxurious seating. Discovered the lighting again at another hotel, this time in New York, at The Hudson.

Love the way these pendants look in dining areas, warmed up with soft pillows on banquets, against hints of colour and the grain of wood.

With little gold petals that cast magical (and romantic) shadows, the gold version of the Orten'zia suspended lamp is such a work of art, you almost forget it's a light fixture. Designed by Bruno Rainaldi for Terzani, tiny metal petals are hand-soldered to make up spheres that are then finished in gold-plate.

The difference between the chandeliers by Michael McHale Designs and other chandeliers is the materials. While the dripping crystals on a McHale may be Swarovki's best, the base holding everything together is composed of distressed brass pipes and fittings, worn from years of use and reclaimed from building sites. The company has also been acquiring fittings from Katrina building sites in Mississippi and Lousianna, as well as from local sites in New York.
