This is How I Live...in My Head

Vogue - October 2009
Karlie Kloss by Arthur Elgort

The text in the upper left-hand corner states: "Unmentionables of Mention: In a suite at the Ritz, she wears an ensemble inspired by photos of M. Dior dressing his mannequins before shows, which explains this chic déshabillé look [by] Christian Dior Haute Couture."
Ah yes, to be beautiful and beautifully dressed in a suite surrounded by gorgeous bouquets of roses at the Ritz in Paris...take me now! At least I've gotten a head-start; I've filled my room with roses and I'm wearing a pretty French bra. Next task, book a trip at the Ritz.

My new favorite word...déshabillé (the state of being partially dressed). I'm going to be pretentious and use this word during dinner tonight.

Pieroni Pin-Ups

Wouldn't it be so much fun to do a pin-up shoot like these with the talented Carlo Pieroni? If only he did 'civilian' portraits, we would stand a chance! He just might be the worldwide front-runner in pin-up photography...though we also love the pin-up work of Norman Jean Roy and Danielle Bedics!
This is exactly how we enjoy seeing lingerie; flirty, cheeky and a hint of innocence mixed with a bad girl twist. His photographs practically look like a Vargas painting mixed with an Olivia painting...or at least the models/poses are very Vargas-esque. That effect is likely due to the fact that he mixes illustration with his photos as displayed in the images above.
Carlo Pieroni has quite an extensive catalog of work on his website, so check out the rest of his portfolio here.

{inspiration: tim walker + polka dots}

. . . fun, fun, fun with polka dots and appointments, photo shoots, to-do lists, dinner reservations, and answering thought-provoking questions about design -- and later, a stunningly pretty give-away . . .

Damaris - Fall 2009 Collection

The name of the photographer escapes us (it's on our Fall 2009 catalogue, but we can't find it!)
There were 2 different photographers...one for the 'glamour' shots and one for the catalogue...

It's such a happy moment for us, finally being able to share the new Damaris Fall 2009 images with you! As always, we are presented with some gorgeous designs and we feel this is an especially strong collection. Probably our favorite of all of the items is the Frisson group. The Frisson pieces are those with a lily pattern on a fine tulle material; so striking and classic.
We noticed that most of the bras (except for the Ophelia Soft Cup Bra) offer great support and can be worn for more than just a special occasion. Even some of the matching bottoms are more practical. A new selection for Fall includes nightgowns and robes; something that was not offered in the past. We love having so many options!
The new Damaris Fall 2009 collection (groups include Frisson, Ophelia and Ballerina) is now online and available for purchase!

{happy monday + a change in seasons}

. . . a bit of a late start this morning and after the weekend, an undeniable change in the air -- leaves are falling and it's afternoon walks in overcast skies, warm knits and satin blankets . . .

{p.s.}
* isn't lace in a drawer such a lovely idea?
* more pretty show ribbons

{runway inspiration: karl lagerfeld + milan}

fendi, milan

. . . the runways of milan were wispy pink, ivory and ecru, in linen and tulle and ruffles and frills, all mixed with softly frayed edges, loosely piled hair and high, high heels wrapped in bows . . .

{p.s.}
* more wispy loveliness at the side project

* aren't the perspex clutches stunning?

Lingerie As Outerwear...Really...

Marc Jacobs runway SS2010
images via here

Every time New York Fashion Week hits, we eagerly search for any trends having to do with lingerie, and Marc Jacobs hit the spot! Though admittedly we aren't crazy about this look, it certainly is fun and noteworthy. Actually, if the trend of wearing your bra outside your blouse catches on, we will be in heaven...finally a way to show off all of the beautiful pieces that we own! Though we have a feeling that won't be happening anytime soon.
The bras kind of remind us of The Lake & Stars...perhaps Marc Jacobs was inspired while reading about them on the Frou Frou Fashionista! (okay, yeah right).

Jessica Stam

We love Jessica Stam, so it's very exciting to share some of these beautiful images of her from Numero Korea (October 2009). She glams it up in her undies paired with a bustier, jacket and even a fur (we hope it's fake...there's no reason to use real fur in this day & age). We love the shot with the fishnet stockings - it seems like lately anything that is paired with fishnets is automatically a favorite (it's likely we're just excited about being able to wear our own Falke stockings when the weather cools down).

. . . another whirlwind week has come and gone and this weekend is tall boots and fallen leaves, brisk afternoons and warm tartan blankets, and in the evenings, tulle dresses and moonlight . . .

Frou Frou Fridays

Sarah from La Jeune Marie

Today marks the final installment of our Frou-Frou Fridays series at La Jeune Marie. This week's theme is Anniversary Lingerie, which means we selected pieces that are dramatic and dazzling.
Thank you to Sarah for providing us with this very fun opportunity! We also hope our readers have been enjoying Sarah's boudoir photos; she perfectly demonstrates how boudoir photos do not have to be overdone and tacky (unless you want that!), but instead can be elegant and tasteful. We hope this inspires you to get one done as a treat to yourself (and your special someone)!

The Lake & Stars - Fall 2009

photography by Matt Sundin

Everyone's favorite lingerie brand, The Lake & Stars, has unveiled its Fall/Winter 2009 collection titled "A Shot in the Dark". In true TLS fashion, their catalogue includes images worthy of W Magazine (just wait until you see their Spring images!) and the designs remain true to the brands roots. We love how designers Nikki and Maayan take the best-selling looks of a previous season and add new life into them in a way we could have never imagined. That's what true talent is all about. A fun little fact: for "A Shot in the Dark" each group is named after a battle that was fought at night; Waterloo, Sedgemoor, Barnet & Franklin. There's always a fun fact with everything TLS does...even their wash instruction tags are imaginative!
