. . . the first week of this new year has already been a spectacular flurry of activity, beginning with a new tiffany blue & gold-leafed daybook waiting to be filled, and on the eve of new year's day, a meeting in a hotel lobby amidst the still twinkling post-holiday fairy lights, to plot and to plan and to dream, and there is so much to tell you, including, currently, two enormously exciting projects in the works, a wedding in paris in june, and still to come, the grandest adventure of all, that may just change everything -- and so, it is wild anticipation that we begin the second week of this new year . . .

. . . and as you may well know, often most drawn to bright & airy palettes, and especially at this time of year, but there is something about this deep and rich and warm and sultry festive scene, that is nearly impossible to resist . . .

Imagine the anticipation of stepping on board a grand and majestic train, all aglow, as the brisk winter’s evening has just fallen.



Inside, passengers settle in for the evening, enjoying perfect touches of comfort and luxury, echoing that of a romantic, bygone era.



And as steam trails behind and the new journey commences, the heart flutters momentarily and one is not sure what to expect, but one thing is for certain, guests are abound to endless wondrous destinations, with discoveries and sights to take in at nearly every moment along the way.



Today we explore a wonderful selection of world-renowned trains and journeys, from all different points of the world.



And so, we invite to you warm a delicious cup of drinking chocolate, and please join us on an incredible railway adventure . . .

. . . warm neutrals, deep blues and pale blues, silver & gold, warm slate & evergreen -- so many beautiful colour combinations for the holiday season, and while this year may be white & gold, perhaps, little bits of rose may find their way into glasses and cushions, cakes and pastries and the edges of teacups . . .

. . . if you have been reading for a while, you will know about a mad love for storage on display, and whether shoes or a perfume collection, all the pretty little things about the house are easily transformed into works of art, when displayed in a beautiful glass cabinet . . .

I ask a lot of clients what their favorite colors are and they say, 'I don't know what I want to live in.' I say, 'Go in your closet and look at the majority of what color is in there; that's the color you're going to like living in.

. . . and it would seem that september whirled by more quickly than the rest, and suddenly, it is autumn, and as promised, have been adding dashes of white, here & there, for just a few moments longer, at least until the leaves begin to fall, [although must confess, beginning to fall in love with the thought of cosy sweaters and romantic nights by the fire], and while things may have been happily filled with busy-ness the past few weeks, this weekend has been a perfect change of pace, filled with sunshine and saturday markets, and today, perhaps brunch, the flower markets and a walk along the water . . .

. . . a quick hello and a little note to say that the favourite five series will be on hiatus until september 12, 2011, as laily is away on holiday before summer's end . . . and when she returns, brand new and exciting interviews lined up that we can not wait to share with you, but until then, a few past favourites you may have missed . . .

. . . it's always interesting when one's tastes begin to change, however imperceptibly, and even if only for a moment . . . here, one has come to expect light and bright and a glittery glimmer; a dash of ornateness and maximalist tendencies -- and yet -- inexplicably drawn to the soft black leather and dark, heavy drapery of these rooms, rugged, and yet refined, beckoning and yet a little mysterious . . .



{or perhaps it is lure of bright panelled walls and perfect pools of light?}

. . . while in theory, may love the thought of stepping out in vibrant spring hues, in actuality, much more likely to dash out the door in pale & pretty neutrals . . . and so, was delighted to happen upon a perfect compromise: a crisply tailored white coat accented with an elegantly thin fuchsia belt and pale yellow clutch, or long layers of lace and cool colour-block sandals, or perhaps, floor-length in warm whites, cinched with a perfectly preppy band of kelly green . . .
