Born and bred in Gravesend, Kent, although highly academic, Ben Jones turned his back on a university placement in favor of a trainee role in his local barber shop. At 19 Ben broke away from this limited position to broaden his horizons and pursue a more diverse and creative career path in London immediately joining Antenna, a salon famed for their pioneering work in mono-fibre hair extensions, where Ben began exploring the more marginal side and skills of creative hairstyling.
Although this spoke to Ben’s artistic edge he realized his full training had to be completed in a more traditional setting opting for a salon in Knightsbridge. Having first got a taste for session hairstyling, whilst based in this salon, Ben soon decided to seek a full-time career in the freelance world.
Quickly becoming a highly valued member of show teams Ben worked closely with world renowned hairstylists Marc Lopez, Duffy and Sam McKnight soon becoming first assistant to Neil Moodie for two and a half years. Since leaving this position Ben’s editorial work has featured in publications such as; Wonderland, i-D, Vogue Russia, Vogue India, Dazed and Confused, Man About Town, Velvet, Ponystep, Bon International, Jalouse and W.
Ben has worked with several highly renowned photographers including; Max Vadukal, Marc Hom, Tom Allen, Jacob Sutton, Takay, Adam Whitehead, Ben Toms, Toyen, Matt Irwin, Willem Jaspert, Mari Sarai, Thomas Giddings and Nick Dorey. Ben’s client roster has included; Burberry, Stella McCartney/Adidas, McQ, Teatum Jones, Hannah Marshall, ErotoKritos, Katy Eary, David Koma for Topshop, Karen Millen and River Island.
His celebrity clients have included; Amy Winehouse, Emma Watson, Tilda Swinton and Florence Welch.
