GLAMOUR PHOTOGRAFY

. . . when the chanel spring 2012 ready-to-wear collection graced the runways of paris, there was a collective gasp at the magic underwater kingdom created by karl lagerfeld -- there was lightness and seashells, but most astonishingly lovely, were the iridescent pearls glistening from chignons and following the curvatures of necks and down plunging backs . . .



. . . and after happening upon a few beautiful backstage photos of the show recently, a few golden hairpins laying about on the dressing table, and some pretty pearl beads were all the inspiration necessary . . .

. . . and while on the topic of old-world glamour and romance, of holiday chignons and opera gloves, an utterly stunning collection that encompasses all these, and in luxuriously lovely shades of petal pink and dusky lilac, moonstone, silver shadow, pearl . . .

. . . this weekend was spent on dinner dates, following afternoons wandering about the shops, intoxicating new fragrances and impossibly decadent fleur de sel chocolate, the scent of french cade & lavender always drifting romantically through the air, and evening walks in the rain . . .

meetings // a stop by blue bottle for a quick latte & catbird in williamsburg, for a few pretty things, including a nallik by jean balk necklace [similar to this one], a stunning satomi kawakita bar ring, and a gold heart ring // a stop by brook farm general store in brooklyn [p picked up a waxed canvas book bag]

. . . and then, before we knew it, it was on the way out of the city to the utterly charming lakeview lodge in the mountains for the rest of the week . . .

. . . it was one of those beautifully exhausting weekends filled with all the things of summertime -- rooftop dinner parties, waterfalls and picnics and late-august peaches, silvery clouds and astonishing riotously pink sunsets, sun-drenched drives with the top down along the coast, and most of all re-connecting with old friend & family once again after far too long . . .

. . . after one of the most relaxing weekends ever, overflowing with excitement for a new week, and over time, have begun to fall in love with mornings over late evenings, for their hazy early light and their miles and miles of new hours yet to be filled, and have always, always adored new weeks for this very reason, and for all the promises of new and undiscovered things . . . and this week is lovely projects, meetings and appointments, unruly inboxes and long lost letters, and little things that will comprise, at the end, enormous and enormously life-changing events in a few months' time . . . and so, for now, a pair of elegant wide-legged jeans, a chic carry-all, a chignon, and today's paper, and it's back to work . . .

. . . daydreams may float with vibrant colours and spring breezes, but scarcely february and have just purchased a new pair of tall boots to replace the three ruined by snow, sleet and rain, and still stepping out in cool & classic shades of ebony and onyx; and while some days, there may be clouds, here, they are always lined in gold -- and so, a perfect intermingling of the two . . .
