WHAT TO PACK FOR PARIS | march twenty-twelve
concept & words by sarah klassen, editing & image compilation by roséline
Last week, we shared a few favourite places in the city of lights & love, for those with dreams and plans to summer in the Jardin du Luxembourg and the tea rooms of Ladurée, and this week, in answer to all of the requests that have been pouring in over the past few months, thought it might be lovely to include a few tips and suggestions for what to take on such an adventure, and ideas for wonderful little additions to your wardrobe, such as a new scarf you might pick up in a charming shop in Montmartre or a cocktail ring from a vintage shop on a pretty side street, or perhaps your first scent from Hermès.
The memories of your trip will surely follow you home, when your scarf is trailing behind you, as you walk along the beach, reminding you of the most romantic evening along the Seine, or while you are enjoying an evening out with your love, the scent of your new favorite perfume bringing back memories of the most beautiful picnic that the two of you shared in the gardens of Versailles.
Your journey is meant to be fun and full of exploration, discovery and culture—and very much a part of the culture of Paris is the fashion and style of Parisians, with their clever mix of elegance, sexiness and ease. My Mother once taught me, the basics are wonderful and necessary, but you must give them your own twist—your personal touch, be it a chic belt, or a re-interpreted piece of jewelry given to you by your Grandmother.
And while planning for the trip, there are a number of things to consider, from simple comforts that make all of the difference while flying, to unforeseen things that may occur while you are out & about exploring this magical city. And so, today we explore these things, to help insure that you have a most pleasant and most memorable trip . . .

{holiday gift guide : lovely little luxuries}
. . . and the realization that it was already [and impossibly] mid-december set in this morning, even before the first cup of coffee, and there are still so many plans to make, and things to do, and if you're running a little behind on the holiday shopping, as is the case here, a few perfectly pretty things, for best friends [or yourself], in shades of blush and bits of gold . . .
happy monday! hope your week is off to a perfect start,
roséline xo

{two lovely things: a paris apartment & hermès}
. . . how we arrived at thursday {or mid-april, for that matter}, is an utter mystery, but the spring sun has been shining and have you ever had amazingly enormous plans that hinged on the completion of a million smaller ones? . . . and in a few months' time, the beginning of one of the grandest adventures, and despite excitement uncontained for the things to come, for now, there are to-do lists and always emails, handwritten thank you notes and long lost friends to be reacquainted with -- and so -- a few moments away to get caught up, leaving you with these two very lovely things . . .
hope you're having a stunningly beautiful week so far,
xo

{happy monday}
. . . hello again! . . . monday, monday, and after a perfect weekend of astonishingly spectacular autumn days -- romantic lunch dates and sun-soaked and golden trees, the still-lingering and intoxicating scent of freshly fallen leaves intermingled with warm apple crumble, it's back to work, although must confess quite adore the start of a new week, and this morning it's french coffee and sesame bagels fresh from the oven and many more beautifully inspiring things to come later in the day, but for now, dashing out the door, a little too chilly for leather shorts and heels, but perfect for a belted trench and high-heeled boots the colour of silver-lined clouds . . .
lovely to see you again & hope your week is off to a brilliant start,
xo
{p.s.} thanks so much for all the wonderful comments & e-mails over the weekend xoxo
{& one last thing:} if you've only just arrived, this week's give-away: the always stylish modern classic louis ghost armchair

{have an enchanting autumn weekend}
. . . saturday morning was a luxuriously late start, a sunny morning drive and a favourite café utterly filled with charm and round marble tables and crimson umbrellas, walkways strewn with brightly fallen leaves and a breathtaking view overlooking the still-green parks and cityscape beyond, while inside, glittering antique chandeliers, flaky butter tarts and frothy lattes; and best of all, there's still time for the sound of leaves beneath tall leather boots and for perfect kisses under pale october skies . . .
hope you're in the midst of a stunningly lovely weekend & that it's beautiful where you are,

{autumn comes in shades of hermès}
. . . every year at this time, begin to fall for extravagantly vibrant hues -- russet and goldenrod and that perfectly elusive shade of french orange that sometimes flutters on a fallen and windswept leaf, caught up in the breezes of a cool september morning . . .

{photography: hèrmes + sparkling things}
. . . nearly always with a camera at hand, shooting here or there, moving things and styling things -- and so, was perfectly delighted to happen upon these wonderful close-up shots by kris atomic and her charming collection of sparkling things . . .

{at this moment: hermès orange}
May never consider painting the walls a bright orange, but have lately been inexplicably drawn to its sheer vibrancy, at home and in fashion -- perhaps it's the coming change in seasons or the creativity the colour is thought to bring . . . or it may just be the promise of the beautiful things that arrive in those lovely orange boxes . . .
Hermès orange and a framed 1950s fashion photograph are the perfect compliment to a Louis XVI gilt console

{pretty lovely}
Recently came across more images {above + below} of fashion designer Jacqueline Appel's lovely, lovely home . . .
The custom Pucci scarf pillow shams, Murano chandelier, lacquered ceiling, and polished floor make her living room one of the rooms I always come back to . . .{images 1 + 2: H+H January 2006; 3: from an earlier post & Flare September 2007}

{blue satin sashes}
Completely fell in love with this photograph of Jen Gotch's whirlwind trip to Vegas -- the lacy strapless dress with blue satin sash and matching shoes are just perfect and très romantic.
