WHAT TO PACK FOR PARIS | march twenty-twelve
concept & words by sarah klassen, editing & image compilation by roséline
Last week, we shared a few favourite places in the city of lights & love, for those with dreams and plans to summer in the Jardin du Luxembourg and the tea rooms of Ladurée, and this week, in answer to all of the requests that have been pouring in over the past few months, thought it might be lovely to include a few tips and suggestions for what to take on such an adventure, and ideas for wonderful little additions to your wardrobe, such as a new scarf you might pick up in a charming shop in Montmartre or a cocktail ring from a vintage shop on a pretty side street, or perhaps your first scent from Hermès.
The memories of your trip will surely follow you home, when your scarf is trailing behind you, as you walk along the beach, reminding you of the most romantic evening along the Seine, or while you are enjoying an evening out with your love, the scent of your new favorite perfume bringing back memories of the most beautiful picnic that the two of you shared in the gardens of Versailles.
Your journey is meant to be fun and full of exploration, discovery and culture—and very much a part of the culture of Paris is the fashion and style of Parisians, with their clever mix of elegance, sexiness and ease. My Mother once taught me, the basics are wonderful and necessary, but you must give them your own twist—your personal touch, be it a chic belt, or a re-interpreted piece of jewelry given to you by your Grandmother.
And while planning for the trip, there are a number of things to consider, from simple comforts that make all of the difference while flying, to unforeseen things that may occur while you are out & about exploring this magical city. And so, today we explore these things, to help insure that you have a most pleasant and most memorable trip . . .

{monday, monday & a bright new week}
. . . hello! lovely to see you again, and how was your weekend? ours was filled with a [quite insane] busy-ness, much different from the recent luxuriously low-key weekends of late, late mornings and sunday brunches; this one was filled with unfinished projects, paint and brushes and drywall dust thrown into the mix for most of the time, with a few moments, happily, on sunday evening, for the oscars [didn't gwyneth look amazing?]; and now, extravagantly happy for a new week, just to have things back to a regular pace again, although there is now a mountain of things left to catch up on, and so, very late weekend links to follow, but for now, a flurry of tangerine tango & a quick hello . . .
happy monday! hope your week is off to a perfect start, —roséline xo
{p.s.} have fallen quite behind on emails and responses may take a little longer than usual x

{at the office | lookbook : secret squirrel winter 12}
. . . have always adored secret squirrel's 'quiet luxury and modern unassuming style', and the new winter 12 collection, art class, is as pretty as ever, with fun geometric patterns, sexy short trenches and shades of heather grey, blush and coral, that will make mornings before the office a perfect breeze . . .

{tabletop inspiration : sunrise & cerulean}
. . . when it comes to table settings, nearly always prefer a light and ethereal colour palette -- white and gold and perhaps, only on occasion, a dash of hollywood cerise, but as the days drift steadily toward chillier temperatures, have been falling for deeper and richer hues -- cobalt & hermès, sunrise & cerulean -- intermingled, of course, with elegantly patterned table linens and astonishingly lovely chandeliers dripping in glittering crystals and bits of gold . . .

. . . as you know, a few weeks ago in the early morning light of late summer, stopped in for coffee & mimosas at the opening of tory burch's new flagship boutique on 797 madison avenue in new york, for a glimpse of the beautiful interiors spanning across five floors of a 19th century townhouse . . .
. . . and while browsing the new collection and in between a glass of champagne for me, and a freshly brewed coffee from a gilded service for laily, had the chance to catch up with tory and ask her a few questions . . .

{runway inspiration: elie saab, paris}
. . . if you have been reading for a while, you undoubtedly know about about a longstanding love affair with elie saab, and especially, for said designer's penchant for sequins by daylight, dramatic draping, billowy fabrics, pleats and perfectly pretty party dresses, and while previous collections my have been about pale & pretty neutrals, the spring 2012 collection, while still awash in beautiful sequins and filled with glamour, is all about colour . . .

Simply Sexy - Kate Beckinsale
Naturally once we saw these images of Kate Beckinsale over on Design Love Fest we knew they needed to be shared with you! Just a basic bra and boy short layered with a blouse can be so sexy, and what's great is that so many of us already have the basic foundations to create this very look. It's wonderful knowing that as amazing as elaborate luxury lingerie can be that something so basic can be equally if not more sexy. Perhaps that's the concept mastered so effectively by brands such as Eres, Hanro and Skin...sometimes less is more.
(Granted we are still Swarovski crystal-loving, lace, silk and ostrich feather-wearing, glitz and glam girls at heart!).
{runway inspiration: dsquared2, new york}
. . . sometimes, a gold and white summer dress with sandals & pearls; and other times, a trench, cuffed jeans & heels -- but had never considered a denim shirt with pink wide-legged pants, or a cropped trenched with city shorts {so utterly chic!} -- the dsquared2 resort collection is filled with these perfect combinations, all intermingled with a sophisticated seventies feel, and a dash of rock and refined . . .

{décor inspiration: bedside tables & bouquets}
. . . would, perhaps, change the paisley to crisp, white linens, but adore the charming plaid floor and can hardly tear away from the vibrantly painted bedside table and perfect bouquet of roses . . .
{p.s.} wouldn't this room be lovely in a quaint countryside cottage?

{inspiration for spring: fall collections}
. . . the wonderful thing about previewing fall collections in early spring is that they are always overflowing with inspiration for spring -- striped sweaters and pencils skirts, layers of cropped knits over crisp blouses and wide-legged trousers, bright saffron-coloured dresses, and most of all, classic trenches, belted and perfectly paired with cuffed skinny jeans and heels . . .

{style inspiration: portfolio clutch}
. . . often prefer totes and structured handbags with shoulder straps to keep hands free for checking emails and picking up bright spring bouquets, but now that it is officially spring, can not help but be drawn to this undeniably elegant and impossibly chic leather portfolio clutch, with lovely details like an envelope flap and gold clasp, and especially in this stunning shade of orange . . .
{p.s.} also comes in black
