. . . not often one for prints and patterns, but there is something about derek lam's current collection, with its leather skirts and golden oxfords, cotton twill blazers and herringbone coats, silks and knits and sumptuously billowy dresses, that one is hopelessly drawn . . .

. . . pleated silk blouses and pretty pencil skirts, herringbone and shearling and scalloped trim -- few can match the elegant tailoring and perfect simplicity of chloé . . .

. . . as you know, on busy days, often prefer elegantly no-nonsense hairstyles, such as a chignon, topknot, or classic ponytail, and this one, swept over and wrapped, is a sophisticated take on the original, and is perfectly polished for the office, or, when paired with a silk camisole trimmed in sequins, perfect for when the work is done . . .

. . . despite all the holiday daydreaming, making it sometimes a little difficult to get things done, and between the festive plans and mid-week brunch dates, there are still a million and one things do, and so, a glittery manicure and a bite of a cupcake wrapped in gold, and it's out the door, perfectly tailored in elegant cashmere and leather accents, and of course, an always chic, yet practical doctor's bag in one hand, and a coffee in the other . . .

. . . a rainy, rainy tuesday with still much to do, but happily, a houndstooth bow blouse and a high-waisted pencil skirt keeps things polished [& far from dreary] and brighten up the workday -- that, and of course, a break for coffee and a few macarons . . .

. . . monday, monday, and it's back to work, and yet, there is something different in the air, making it nearly impossible not to daydream and plan, and everywhere, trees are twinkling with fairy lights and a little magic, and everything, as if over night, feels a little more festive . . .

. . . hello! it's lovely to see you again -- how was your weekend? here, there was much, much relaxing, all the way and blissfully through until sunday evening, at which time, finally and reluctantly, all the summer things were stowed away [as planned quite some time ago], closets emptied and old favourite blouses and spring sweaters rediscovered; there was also time for many cups of coffee and long, slow mornings, the light flooding in, little by little as time slipped dreamily by . . .

[and now, a new week and back to work, and already, a few things:]

. . . one of those days with a billion and one things to do and time moving far, far too quickly . . . a classic ponytail with little fuss & easy elegance kind of day . . .

. . . and after spending the summer in billowy dresses, should think it rather lovely to spend the autumn in pantsuits, wool and tweed, and perhaps even tartan, perfectly offset by a pretty blouse and sexily tousled hair and it's all in a day's work . . .

. . . and while on the topic of back to work, aren't these desk accessories lovely, lovely? they would look especially perfect on a mirrored desk and surrounded glittery & gilded accessories, and am also quite taken with the white pencils dipped in gold . . .

. . . and it would seem that everything has been running a few hours behind since the week began, although suppose it's always the case when one has been away for a while, but happily, a side affect of having been away is returning with a new and beautiful energy, overflowing with inspiration, and with so many lovely things to share, that can hardly work quickly enough . . .

. . . a very quick hello on one of those days where everything seems to be getting away -- there are deadlines and amazingly long to-do lists, arrangements and appointments, and the emails have been piling up for days, and so, it's coffee and back to work . . .

. . . without fail, every year, at this time, there is an extra fondness for layers, whether soft cardigans and long cashmere scarves out the door, or at home and in the office, where gilded glass, deep silk and sophisticated zebra print intermingle as if in a swirl of autumn splendor . . .

. . . and it feels as if we have been sorting and organising for days, and yet, there are still so many things about, that out-of-town guests may just arrive to something resembling {although somewhat less tumultuous} sofia coppola's beautiful mess . . .
