WHAT TO PACK FOR PARIS | march twenty-twelve

Last week, we shared a few favourite places in the city of lights & love, for those with dreams and plans to summer in the Jardin du Luxembourg and the tea rooms of Ladurée, and this week, in answer to all of the requests that have been pouring in over the past few months, thought it might be lovely to include a few tips and suggestions for what to take on such an adventure, and ideas for wonderful little additions to your wardrobe, such as a new scarf you might pick up in a charming shop in Montmartre or a cocktail ring from a vintage shop on a pretty side street, or perhaps your first scent from Hermès.



The memories of your trip will surely follow you home, when your scarf is trailing behind you, as you walk along the beach, reminding you of the most romantic evening along the Seine, or while you are enjoying an evening out with your love, the scent of your new favorite perfume bringing back memories of the most beautiful picnic that the two of you shared in the gardens of Versailles.



Your journey is meant to be fun and full of exploration, discovery and culture—and very much a part of the culture of Paris is the fashion and style of Parisians, with their clever mix of elegance, sexiness and ease. My Mother once taught me, the basics are wonderful and necessary, but you must give them your own twist—your personal touch, be it a chic belt, or a re-interpreted piece of jewelry given to you by your Grandmother.



And while planning for the trip, there are a number of things to consider, from simple comforts that make all of the difference while flying, to unforeseen things that may occur while you are out & about exploring this magical city. And so, today we explore these things, to help insure that you have a most pleasant and most memorable trip . . .

. . . it always seems, about this time of year, am ready to throw open the windows to the bright sunlight, in wild anticipation for springtime, and so, it is not difficult to imagine one being hopelessly drawn this perfectly romantic home, with its dusky lavender walls and pooling drapes of the same hue, its tufted linen chairs and carved settees, scalloped and gilded and mirrored accents, its florals and lucite may bring on bouts of spring fever at any moment . . .

Whether you are traveling or will remain at home this Christmas, it is always thoughtful to think of those whose services you require on a regular basis, for a well-mannered traveler is always grateful for good service.



Beyond a spoken thank you, tipping is essential in many cases, and for services above and beyond, a handwritten thank you note is always an elegant and appreciative touch.



As for your regular go-to services at home, it is a wonderful gesture to acknowledge their continuous service during the holidays . . .

. . . while spring may be a time for paring down, autumn is for layering -- for sweaters and long scarves and at home, wool blankets and velvet drapes, and a need to revel in beautiful details, and perfectly ornate bits of gold -- along the edges exotic woods and around the graceful curves of spiral staircases . . .

. . . hello again! had not meant to go missing for quite as long, but as you know, with travel, things can sometimes get a little tricky when it comes to scheduling, and today, sunny, bright & beautiful in geneva, and with terrace cafés overlooking the lake and walks along cobblestone streets, still-leafy parks, fountains and cathedrals, was far too tempting to take the day to enjoy the unseasonably warm weather . . . not certain when there next will be a moment to say hello, but for now, leaving you with the utter sophistication of metallic wallcoverings, scalloped headboards and monogrammed bed linens, chandeliers and gilded mirrors, lavender velvet and de gournay . . .

. . . this weekend has been an early sunday brunch -- lattes and fluttering late-summer leaves on a quaint, bustling terrace, and afterward, cobblestones and shops and silken satchels of lavender, cocktails with good friends, wide-legged jeans and golden sandals, and on this over-cast autumn-like day, already a feeling of change and, perhaps, somewhere in the clouds, the promise of new and magnificent things . . .

where ever in the world you may be, hope you've had [are having] an astonishingly lovely [long] weekend, and that it's beautiful where you are, roséline xo

. . . and it is nearly time again to stow away the light bed linens for cosy throws & warm duvets, and perhaps, for the warmer shades of coco & morning coffee, all perfectly intermingled with always elegant tufted stripes and ultra-glamorous lavender silk . . .

. . . has been one of those weeks, where, despite having a million things to do, thoughts could not help but wander to these last few weeks of summer, and with family to arrive from paris for a few weeks, painting & decorating projects, design work & interviews, it's lovely, lovely to have the weekend to {hopefully} find a few moments to spend in the early-august sun . . .

. . . would, perhaps, change the paisley to crisp, white linens, but adore the charming plaid floor and can hardly tear away from the vibrantly painted bedside table and perfect bouquet of roses . . .

. . . a very late but warm hello! it's lovely to see you again . . . this weekend was miles and miles of sunshine, some time at the shops and a new pair of perfectly chic suede summer sandals with gilded clasps; long walks at sunset and a saturday night film {bill cunningham new york -- [have you seen? so good]} with buttery popcorn; scented candles in the evening and strong coffee in the mornings, a table for two high above the world, with utterly breathtaking views of the city, and gardens overflowing with the intoxicating scent of white lilacs and sweet-smelling secret bunches of lilies of the valley . . .

. . . the weather has been so astonishingly lovely, it is nearly impossibly not to be swept away by the blossom-scented breezes and glittering rays of sunlight . . . and this weekend was out-of-town guests and charming dinner conversations, luxuriously late mornings and sunday brunch {smoked salmon & scrambled eggs with chives, rosti, creamed horseradish & caviar} and time to fall in love all over again with every last moment along the way . . .
